OUR GOAL
We are raising money for students in a small village called Kisdobrony, in Western Ukraine, to give them access to laptops which will support them in their future learning. The Kisdobrony students need support, especially now during the ongoing Russian - Ukrainian war that has drastically impacted their daily lives and has challenged their chances to succeed in academics.
Kisdobrony (Мала Добронь) lies in the area called Kárpátalja or Zakarpatia (Закарпаття) in Western Ukraine. This village is more than 700 years old and has a population of around 2000 people, of which 98% is of Hungarian nationality. They are the largest minority in the area of Zakarpatia (with 12,1%).
Kisdobrony School works with 4 lower and 7 higher grades (primary and secondary education). Currently, 216 students are taught by a total of 24 teachers.
The goal of the fundraiser is to raise at least a total of $4,500 USD, of which 15-20 laptops can be purchased and given to the school. The teachers will decide which students would receive the donated laptops based on academic and social criteria: students who show excelling grades and a passion in STEM subjects as well as students from large families and of lower income would be the first priority.
To put these donations to scale, a general monthly gross income in this part of Ukraine is below $300 USD. Every small amount counts.
To ensure that the donations safely get to the students, the village’s reformed pastor, Tamás Bernát, will assist us along the collaboration of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid (Magyarországi Református Szeretetszolgálat). This is a trusted way to guarantee that the donations received here for the laptops safely reach the end destination and that all proceeds will go directly to the Kisdobrony students.
All donations are placed under the responsibility of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid charity, ensuring data protection. A tax certificate can also be given upon request. All proceeds will be used to purchase and deliver computers/laptops that are compatible with the Ukrainian school system for Kisdobronyi Líceum.
You will be able to keep track of the donations on this platform, along with the homepage of the Reformed Charity’s website and receive updates about the full process until the students receive their new laptops.
We gratefully thank everyone for their help!
Who we are
We are sisters, Laura and Letti who would like to help a small group of the students impacted by the Ukrainian-Russian War. We live and go to middle/high school in Texas.
We heard about the school in Kisdobrony from a dear friend of our parents, who regularly visits the area as a missionary pastor. Since we are of Hungarian origin, we feel a special connection to the students in Kisdobrony, since 98% of the village population belongs to the Hungarian national minority.
We are both interested in subjects involving technology such as computer science, robotics and marketing, multimedia, photo and video editing. Because of this, we want to help students with similar interests by providing them with laptops so that they would be able to pursue their passion in such fields.
For us Texas students, we often take it for granted that we have our own or school-provided laptops. It is especially difficult for us to imagine what it is like to go to school in the shadow of war, terrified by the sound of air raid sirens or to process tragic news from the front involving beloved family members, friends, and fellow citizens.
We are very grateful to all supporters. Every dollar counts and can change lives. To put things into proportion, the average monthly gross income in Kisdobrony is less than $300 US dollars. This means that even the cost for a cup of coffee is significant to the children of Kisdobrony.
Special thanks go to Pastor Tamás Bernát from Kisdobrony, the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service, our family and friends for all their support.
